Emily Roberts plays lead guitar for the band, her dream dinner party guest would be Brian Cox and her favourite food is artichoke, halloumi and hummus baguette.

Early life and education[]

Emily Jane Roberts was born February 5, 1998 in Cheshire, England.

Roberts took guitar lessons at six years old after watching Carly Simon play it at the end of Piglet's Big Movie, but quit after she found it boring.[1] Then at age nine she got back into it by learning acoustic guitar with a local teacher who she got along with.[2][3]

She moved to Manchester after she was awarded a place at Chetham's School of Music, where she studied jazz and classical guitar.[4] During this time she was a member of both Chetham's Big Band and the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.[5]

She accepted a place on the BMus Jazz course at the world renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she first met Aurora Nishevci. After graduating, she was awarded the Guildhall Artists Fellowship programme and was a semi-finalist of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2020.[6]

Career[]

From 2014 she was a member of the Creative Leadership Ensemble, a project involving composing, running workshops and leading a band to encourage females in jazz.[7]

In March of 2016 Roberts played in the Women of the World Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall with Sister Sledge, and in July of the same year she played at The Wigan International Jazz Festival with Eric Marienthal and the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.[7]

In September of 2016 she was part of the "21st Century Pastoral" concert at the Barbican Concert Hall, a collaboration between Iain Ballamy and the Guildhall jazz orchestra and chorus.[7][8]

During the summer of 2017, Roberts was the official electric guitar, mandolin, bass & acoustic guitar dep in the West End production of "Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour" that took place at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.[7][9]

In April and May of 2018 Roberts joined Neo-folk artist Blanco White's 2018 spring tour of the EU and UK,[7] playing with them in Germany, Holland and the UK for the last leg of the tour.[10] She joined Blanco White again on June 21, 2018 to play at O2 Shepard’s Bush Empire supporting Roo Panes.

On the 14th of May 2018 Roberts played the bass with the band LE FEYE at the O2 Academy Oxford supporting Black Honey.[7]

From the 22nd to the 24th November of 2018 Roberts was the Electric guitar/ acoustic guitar/ mandolin chair for Italia Conti’s production of Bright Lights, Big City.[7]

In 2019 she was In a Queen Tribute act called Fat Bottomed Girls, where she played a performance on October 5, 2019.[7][11]

In November of 2019 Roberts Performed with Emma Hatton in "Let’s hear it for the Girls" - an evening showcasing some of the most impressive female voices of the West End at Zedel's, in aid of the Maya Centre.[7][12]

In October of 2020 Roberts played a live acoustic session with Distiller TV for pop artist Fanny Andersen.[7]

In August of 2021 Roberts was the guitarist for The Wedding Singer, a Royal Academy of Music production, and on the 2nd of August 2021, Roberts was the Electric/acoustic guitarist for I Could Use a Drink: The Songs of Drew Gasparini at the Garrick Theatre.[7]

In 2021 Roberts announced that for six months she and a friend of hers, Georgia Williams, had worked on a project together, a band called Wednesday’s Child, where she played lead guitar in.[13]

Roberts released her solo jazz EP, "The Persistence of Memory", on July 8, 2022.[14]

Since November 2021 Roberts has played lead guitar, mandolin & flute in The Last Dinner Party.[15]
