"Godzilla" is a song by The Last Dinner Party, performed during their live sets.
Background[]
Godzilla is one of the oldest songs written by the band and It was first introduced to the bands setlist during their show at XOYO in 2022.[1]
The song was considered for their debut album but was ultimately scrapped because the band didn't feel like it fit the theme of the album.[2]
In 2023 the song was registered to the ASCAP Repertoire alongside the rest of the songs from the bands debut album,[3] suggesting that a studio version of the song may exist.
Lyrics[]
The darling buds of May are frozen
I hope you live the life that you have chosen
I’d never leave you, I’d never leave you
I’d never leave your side
I never knew you, I never knew you
Until the day that you crossed the line
I should’ve known better
I should’ve done more
I couldn’t protect you now you’re running out the door
Oh I'm the winner
Oh hide your eyes
In the name of all that’s holy
I will take what is mine
Oh surrender, my defender
Slaughter of the lambs
I’ll surrender, til he finds me
I’m an honest man
I'd never leave you, I'd never leave you
I’d never leave your side
I never knew you, or what you’ve been through
Until the day that you crossed the line
I should’ve known better
I should’ve done more
I couldn’t protect you now you’re running out the door
Oh hide the bread knives
Oh hide your eyes
In the name of all that’s holy
I will take what is mine
Ooh, yeah-yeah-yeah
Oh hide your eyes
Eye-I-I-I
I will take what is mine
I will take what is mine!
